Obscure Studios is a small, independent production studio creating short films and podcasts.
Founded in 2004 in Northern Arizona, Obscure Studios produced the locally popular unscripted satire Reilly’s Dorm, which ran for more than 90 episodes from 2008-2009. In 2010, we produced our first holiday feature, An Obscure Carol, and our first film festival entry, Cold Read. Our second web series pilot, Poverty With a View, was produced in 2015. Our latest short film, As Seen On TV, premiered in 2019.
Season 1 of our first ever audio drama, The Adventures of Captain Radio, is available now wherever you listen to podcasts.
Our logo features our lovable mascot, Julio, a plastic skull wearing a fedora. We don’t know why he wears a fedora, but it’s been so long now that it’s too awkward to ask.

Meet the Crew
Jonny Eberle, President
Jonny founded Obscure Studios to produce a movie that was never made. Despite that rocky start, Obscure Studios went on to churn out over 100 videos in the early years of YouTube (before YouTubers became rich and famous). He created and starred in the somewhat acclaimed improvisational comedy webseries Reilly’s Dorm. He also served as a camera operator and co-writer on the documentary Changing Gears: Flagstaff and the Mountain Bike which has screened at several festivals. In recent years, he’s stepped behind the camera to focus on writing and directing. In 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, he started writing an audio drama script which became Obscure Studios’ first podcast, The Adventures of Captain Radio.
William McDonald, Vice President
Will has been there almost since the beginning. Always up for turning Jonny’s hare-brained ideas into reality, Will joined the team in 2008 and has starred in, produced, co-written, and co-directed many of Obscure Studios’ short films and web series, including As Seen on TV, An Obscure Carol, Poverty With a View, and After the Rapture. He is an accomplished and prolific performer, appearing in several community theatre productions and in the feature films Unconscious and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (he has an IMDB page and everything). He literally ran away to join the circus and has worked professionally as a lighting designer, audio/video technician, and camera operator for major concerts and music festivals. Will is currently taking the audiobook narration world by storm with his smooth vocals and lends his voice to the cast of Obscure Studios’ podcast, The Adventures of Captain Radio.
