Our Stance on Artificial Intelligence
At Obscure Studios, we believe that art and storytelling are fundamentally human endeavors. Efforts to automate or augment human creativity with AI is antithetical to the creative process. We tell stories for humans, made 100% by humans. If that means our work is less polished than one fabricated with AI, then so be it. We’d much rather make art imperfectly than outsource our creativity to AI and put out a soulless product.
Additionally, we are concerned about the unregulated proliferation of AI, not only to do tasks that should remain the exclusive domain of humans (ie. art) but its detrimental effects on the environment; its use to extract more labor for less money; its potential to further concentrate wealth among the top 1% to the detriment of literally everyone else on Earth; and the risks it poses to our jobs, our perception of reality, and our very existence.
Do we want robots to do our laundry? Absolutely. Do we want it so badly that we’re willing to give up our autonomy, critical thinking skills, and the joy of making art? Absolutely not. So, we’ll keep making art without the assistance of machines and let’s have some common sense regulation, okay?
